Session 2 of the 2008 Accent On Music seminar was a delightful week as well. It featured the great improvisation ability of Guy Van Duser, and the wonderful blues/Americana offerings of David Hamburger. Guy knows just about every song written between 1910-1950, as well as having arrangements for every TV Western theme; and David is well known and respected for his many publications through Acoustic Guitar magazine.
As always, Mark Hanson offered his wealth of material and insight, and Greta provided her sparkling vocals, personality, and assistance overcoming stage fright!
Evening performances included our great friends: blues virtuoso Terry Robb (and partner of Mark Hanson and Doug Smith in the Acoustic Guitar Summit, and brilliant classical guitarist Scott Kritzer. What tone and phrasing! The evenings were great fun, full of admiration by the listeners for these great players. Saturday morning featured a workshop on guitar tech work by the Twelfth Fret's Dave Zogg. Informative and fun.
Friday's student recital occurred at our friend Tim Cox's venue Sydney's Cafe' in downtown Portland. Everyone (almost!) played, and we had a great time with some striking performances, including some self-composed pieces. Jack Wills from Ohio wrote some beautiful solo guitar pieces this year, inspired by his trips to China. Great fun!
The Saturday evening concert was highlighted by solo sets of the three instructors, plus Greta's vocalizing with Mark. the trio of guitars ended the evening with on “Tennessee Waltz”, “Idle Moments” and “Mercy Mercy.”
A good time was had by all!
