Staying on the Atkins Diet
Guy Van Duser
Early in his career, Guy Van Duser came to Chet Atkins' attention through his arrangement of Sousa's "Stars & Stripes Forever." As they became friends Guy would arrange and record tunes in Chet's style (ones he was quite sure Chet had NOT recorded), then send him a tape and ask if Chet remembered making the recording!
Guy saved those tracks and assembled them with others on this 2002 CD. Included are "Limehouse Blues," "Darktown Strutters' Ball," "I Don't Know Why," and "Bridge Over the River Kwai." All are played with the reverb-laden electric Gretsch guitar sound so closely associated with Chet, with very light drum and bass back-up. A great tribute to Guy's biggest guitar hero. Great fun.
